A £40million borough-wide investment, South Tyneside Homes’ three-year Non-Traditional Homes Programme, one of the largest of its type in the country, will see the 1,816 non-traditional homes they manage being improved and upgraded.
Residents living in these homes on the Biddick Hall and West Harton Estates in South Shields will be the first to benefit from the programme. South Tyneside Homes has appointed partner contractors Frank Haslam Milan North East and Esh Property Services to carry out the extensive external and internal improvements.
Internally the works will include the installation of replacement kitchens and bathrooms, as well as a full electrical rewire.
Tenants could see a reduction in their fuel bills as the homes will be made more energy efficient through the installation of new heating systems, upgrading of windows from single to double glazing and internal and external insulation upgrades. As well, these improvements could see a fall of up to 56% in the carbon emissions produced from these homes.
The programme of works on the Biddick Hall Estate will be carried out by Esh Property Services and will be completed by Spring 2012.
