Trainees at Leeds

Training & Employment Opportunities
Working in partnership with Accent Community Partnerships, Leeds City Council and Leeds College of Building, we offered training and employment opportunities for local people in the Leeds area.

We encouraged and promoted jobs and training opportunities within the local community, running a series of open nights encouraging local residents to attend. We subsequently employed a number of local labour on our sites in the Leeds area.

Apprenticeships
During the completion of our contracts at Langdale Road in Woodlesford and Corporation Street in Leeds, we ensured that a minimum of 3 new apprenticeship jobs were created for Local Residents.

Our Training Department worked closely with the Mentor from Accent Community Partnership, to agree the scope of the training programme for each individual trainee employed through the contract.

Accent provided a Training and Employment Advisor, Asif Hussain, who acted as a Mentor for the young people – supporting the apprentices within their roles on site. The Mentor assisted the Apprentices when pulling together their work based experience portfolios for viewing by their college tutors.

Moving forward, we are currently in discussion with Accent to provide future training opportunities at two sites due to commence shortly.

Future Jobs Fund
During our contract with Accent Foundation at Morley in Leeds we employed a General Site Operative to work onsite for the duration of our contract. Esh Property Services made up the difference in pay – increasing the role from the part time opportunity, funded by Future Jobs Fund, to a full time employment.

Results:
Three young people were employed as apprentices – studying at Leeds College of Building whilst being placed with subcontractors onsite to gain manual training experience.

•  2 Apprentice Joiners – Daniel Bielby & Rick Roe both achieved NVQ Level 2 whilst employed by Esh Property Services.

•  1 Apprentice Bricklayer – Joe Gordge is currently working towards his NVQ Level 2.

Upon completion of the contract, we have been able to secure full time jobs with local subcontractors for both Daniel and Joe and they continue to work on our sites through these subcontractors.
